Lazy Latte Log: La Colombe Torrefaction

TL;DR: ★★★★★

Iced latte ($4)
Lafayette St. & E. 4th St.

Fantastic iced latte. Delicious olive oil cake. And for $4 and $3, respectively, the prices at La Colombe Torrefaction aren't too ridiculous either.

This latte was as good as my coveted latte from Ninth Street Espresso — suuuuper smooth, rich, earthy, silky, ahhhhhh. It was perfection. I want more.

Olive oil cake ($3)

This olive oil cake — which my dear friend bought for us after seeing three people ahead of her order it — was also quite tasty. Not too sweet with just a hint of cinnamon, the cake was nutty, moist and light, and seriously, almost every table in the cafe had a slice of this (obviously a good sign). Only tiny beef I had with it was that it was slightly crumblier than I'd like, but that was definitely overlookable (making up words here...) given the overall taste and texture.

Definitely wanna come back here for a hot cup. I'll be expecting something just as amazing (you set the bar too high, La Colombe...).

Update: Zucker Bakery

I came back here with a friend who was visiting the city and wanted to check out a local bakery in my area — and I think she liked it! The lovely decor and delicious treats and tea are what impressed her, I believe.

Chocolate cookie ball-type thing...

After a quick look at the display case, I saw a few new things and went with this. Ahhhhh, I loved this little guy. It looks like a cake ball, but it's actually made of ground-up cookies and has the taste and texture of a very soft yet rich and decadent brownie. At $1.75, it is a little pricey, and I am still a bit torn on whether or not it's worth the hefty price tag (since this thing is pretty tiny).

But it was worth it for the time being, I think — it's definitely a bit different from what you can get from other bakeries, so I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Staff is still not the friendliest, just like last time. Everybody there is just generally a little cold, I guess...

Lazy Latte Log: Think Coffee

TL;DR: ☆☆

(13th St. & 4th Ave., among several locations)

I know Think Coffee is quite a popular joint, but to be honest, I don't really see why — it seems pretty mediocre to me. I've been here several times and tried many drinks, and none of them have yet to floor me. Am I missing something here? Or have I been ordering the wrong things???

For example, this latte. It's a pretty normal latte with a more bitter undertone to it. It's decently smooth but definitely not amazing. I've also had their iced and regular brewed coffees, and neither seemed to wow me. The iced coffee was actually a bit sour (? can coffee be sour?) and unimpressive.

So please, someone enlighten me. Am I missing something here??? Or is Think really just a glorified Starbucks? :/
