Spotted: The Halal Guys in East Village

Look what I saw on my way home from work today: The Halal Guys! They had their cart propped up on 14th St. and 2nd Ave. I've seen them here a few times within the last week — I wonder if this a permanent satellite location?

Located on 53rd St. and 6th Ave. (and a couple other intersections), The Halal Guys are famous for not only their food but also for the longest line to a halal cart you'll ever see. At only $6 for a platter of chicken or lamb over rice, lettuce and slices of pita bread, the food here is probably the best bang for your buck in the city.

The portions are huge, the meat is flavorful, and the white sauce on top is, as a lot of Yelpers called it, "crack" (be careful with the red sauce, though! It's like the devil's concoction from Mamoun's). Quick, cheap and delicious — no wonder people call this the halal cart.

Also, it's October? What?
